November was another “explore month” for me as I had to leave my office desk, pack my bag and accompany two of our clients on a exciting safari in Kenya. The 6 days safari covered three popular destinations in Kenya; L. Naivasha, L.Nakuru National park and Maasai Mara Game Reserve. This article however covers only two of the destinations which are: The Crescent Island and Lake Nakuru National Park. The safari began with a morning road drive to lake Naivasha. Upon arrival, we boarded a boat for an en route boat ride tour to the Crescent island in lake Naivasha. After about 45 minutes of enjoying the awesome ride, refreshing lake breeze, amazing view of the lake and sightings of aquatic birds and lots of Hippos in the lake, we finally got to the Crescent Island.

Walking Safari on the Crescent Island

On leaving the boat to the Island, we were hooked up with one of the island guides to take us around the on our walking safari. Crescent island is one of the few places in the world where one can wander on foot amidst wild animals with no presence of predators. The island boasts an abundance in wildlife such as zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, giraffes, buffaloes, water bucks, dik diks, warthogs, hyenas and numerous types of birds. The sanctuary offers a panoramic view of Mount Longonot all the way to the Aberdares. After the walking safari, we boarded our boat back to the main land, took our Lunch at Elsamare Conservation Center restaurant and Museum – located on the shores of lake Naivasha then afterwards watched a movie about the founder and took a walk around the property to check out the conservation programs being carried out by the organization. Later in the evening, we drove for our overnight rest at Sentrim Elementaita Lodge located on the shores of Lake Elementaita, offering magnificent view of the aquatic bird life and the beautiful lake Elementaita.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Second day was here, took breakfast and left for a game drive to Lake Nakuru National Park 40 min away from the hotel we spent the night. This day we took lunch boxed along with us on the game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park is the home of the pink flamingos and thousands of other bird species, endangered black Rhino, white Rhino, Rothschild Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, Warthog, Lion, Leopard and other animals. After spending the whole morning and part of the afternoon enjoying the beautiful animal sightings on the game drive, we headed Lake Nakuru Lodge which is located within the park before we routed back to Elementaita for overnight. The following morning we drove down to the Maasai Mara where we stayed for three nights- (Coming up story)
